Short Thyroid Panel and Adrenal Stress Index
No energy and digestive problems.
This patient was experiencing a feeling of very little engergy complicated by digestive problems. The doctor had suggested the Short Thyroid Panel (STP) to measure thyroid function and the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to look at adrenal function.
The thyroid test revealed normal free TSH and free T4 indicating the brain and thyroid were working together as expected. The thyroid microsomal antibody was negative indicating that her body was not attacking her thyroid tissue. However, the free T3 levels were low telling us that although the patient's thyroid was working well, her liver was not adequately converting the T4 to T3. Therefore, she was functionally hypothyroid in that her body did not have enough T3 to function well.
The adrenal test showed the patient to be quite low in DHEA, generally low in cortisol production, and depressed immune response. Overall this was a picture of a person under quite a bit of stress for some time.
The main approach to helping this patient recover her energy level is to give her liver support and adrenal support. I suggested the doctor consider Guggalip, Livit 1, and Livit 2 for liver support. Likewise, we talked about giving her sublingual DHEA to boost her levels, a low dose of whole licorice extract first thing in the morning, Adapt for general adrenal support, virgin coconut oil to improve energy, and AmlaPaste to boost the immune response for the mucosal surfaces.
If the patient still experiences digestive problems she could consider taking the Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel (GI2).
