Adrenal Stress Index

Hypoglycemia.

This patient had been under care for quite some time. The doctor ordered the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) as part of the ongoing care.

What we found was that the patient's noon cortisol was high, her DHEA was quite low, her secretory IgA was borderline low, and her gliadin antibody level was a high negative.

The normal morning cortisol and high noon cortisol means that some stress occurred during the mid-morning hours. Examples might be a patient's pain medication wearing off or something stressful happening at work. In this case I suspected low blood sugar following a missed breakfast or a breakfast too high in simple carbohydrates contributing to reactive hypoglycemia.

The doctor realized that the patient would benefit from adrenal support including sublingual DHEA augmentation. Also, he admitted that the patient knew she was gluten intolerant, but that she had consumed some lately. That explains why her gliadin SigA was a high negative.

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
