Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel
Fatigue and gluten intolerance.
The patient has been gradually recovering her health over several years. However, she was still feeling some fatigue so decided to run the Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel (GI2).
The lab report showed that, although no fungal organisms nor pathogenic bacteria were cultured, larger parasites were present. Blastocystis hominis was identified under the microscope. Antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii and Ameba histolytica were high enough that we know the organisms are present at least in the gastrointestinal tract. Those three parasites could easily cause a variety of complaints including fatigue.
The panel also showed the patient to have depressed mucosal immunity, low digestive enzymes, soy protein intolerance, and egg protein intolerance. Now she already knew she was gluten intolerant from a previous test. She had been avoiding gluten faithfully, so her gliadin antibody level was quite low.
The first steps to help this patient include avoiding soy and egg proteins, taking Mega-Polyzyme with each meal, and eradicating the Blastocystis and Ameba. I suggested virgin coconut oil for its ability to help boost metabolism and its ability to help cleanse the gut of certain parasitic organisms (fungus, bacteria, and some protozoans).
I certainly lean toward natural remedies as much as possible. However, much of the time, the organisms are taken care of only with the use of pharmaceuticals. At this time we have no proven protocol for Toxoplasma, but I gave her the pharmaceutical protocols for the other parasites so she could get prescriptions locally.
Warm regards,
