Adrenal Stress Index

Very high cortisol.

The patient had been diabetic since childhood. The doctor noted that she was in relatively good health but had decided to run the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) as part of his long-term health plan for her.

Many people with diabetes have relatively low and flat cortisol curves during the day. However, this patient showed high cortisol on all four measurements.

She had borderline low DHEA, depressed immune response (secretory IgA), and negative gliadin antibody.

The high cortisol shows her body is experiencing some stressor or stressors all day long. The low DHEA and SIgA shows she probably has had high cortisol for some time.

The doctor and I discussed therapy combining DHEA and pregnenolone as hormonal support for the adrenals. He might also consider Adapt for vitamins, minerals, and herbal support for adrenal function. He and I also discussed the blood sugar lowering effects of Bio Gymnema and banaba leaf. Finally, the patient might consider taking Seriphos to help lower cortisol.

In terms of life style, the patient needs to make sure she eats a carbohydrate to protein ratio favoring protein and get sufficient exercise.

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
