Male Hormone Panel
Fatty tumors.
This male patient was concerned about fatty tumors (lipomas) that he currently had. He wanted to make sure his overall hormonal balance was appropriate. So the doctor had him take the Male Hormone Panel (MHP). The doctor also was somewhat concerned about liver function and his immune system.
In terms of the patient's androgen levels, his DHEA was normal, androstenedione was high, testosterone was normal, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) was normal. Estrone was normal, but progesterone was high.
The doctor knew of no hormones that the patient was taking intentially. I suspected the high androstenedione was a result of stress. I also wondered if the high progesterone was a result of external exposure. It is possible that a tumor on a testicle or an adrenal could produce it. However, many skin care products today contain various hormones. Therefore, the doctor will check to see what kinds of products the patient might be using. Also, the patient might consider examination of testes and adrenals to make sure no tumors are present. He might also take another MHP in a few weeks to see if the high hormone levels come down to normal.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
