Male Hormone Panel
Insomnia.
The man's main complaint was insomnia. We could have looked at other tests to address sleep issues, but in this instance, we were looking at results from the Male Hormone Panel (MHP).
The test showed he was a little high in androstenedione and borderline low in DHEA. Both could indicate an adrenal problem, so the doctor might want to order the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to look more closely.
Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone were a little below their age-specific reference ranges. Progesterone was at the low end of normal. However, estrone was very high indicating a possible exposure to an external source.
We did not get a complete answer on the sleep issue. However, a few milligrams of sublingual DHEA and progesterone may help with sleeping. If the patient takes the ASI, we might find that he has high cortisol at night which we can address. The doctor also will try to find the source of external estrogen which may be contributing to insomnia, too.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
