Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel and Short Thyroid Panel - Fibromyalgia, Hot Flashes, and Sleep Problems

This woman had a variety of symptoms including pain, trouble with sleeping, and hot flashes. She had used prednisone and was currently using progesterone cream. The doctor had addressed her problems with the Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel (PHP1) and the Short Thyroid Panel (STP).

We found low DHEA, low estrone, and normal testosterone. Estradiol and estriol both were in the target range. However, progesterone was sky high. That is not unusual when a person takes transdermal progesterone like she was. Overdose could actually be contributing to some of her symptoms.

The thyroid results showed normal free TSH and free T3. Free T4 was a little low, but her liver was apparently working well to convert the existing T4 to sufficient T3. Thyroid microsomal antibody levels were negative.

So, the doctor was going to switch the patient from transdermal progesterone to sublingual form (possibly after having take nothing for awhile). That should bring the circulating level down to the target range. Also, she was going to consider taking a low dose of sublingual DHEA.

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
