Female Hormone Panel
Bad periods.
"Bad periods" was how the doctor first described it, but more specifically, the patient originally had experienced muscle cramping, joint pain, swelling, and inflammation. She also had PMS-like symptoms at about mid cycle.
The patient had been taking a form of DHEA that is not supposed to convert to testosterone and sublingual progesterone during the luteal phase of her cycle. Her symptoms were quite a bit better, but the doctor ordered the Female Hormone Panel (FHP) to get a picture of the hormonal events of her cycle.
The FHP showed depressed DHEA and normal testosterone. Her estradiol was high during the luteal phase, and her progesterone was a little low. So the end result was that she did not have enough progesterone to offset the effects of the existing estrogen.
Well, this was a great follow-up test in that it showed how the doctor might fine-tune the hormone therapy to achieve even better results. The patient still needed a little more sublingual progesterone. And I suggested she switch to a sublingual DHEA to increase her level.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
