Adrenal Stress Index

Allergies and adrenal fatigue.

This patient had suffered from what appeared to be adrenal fatigue, allergies, and some unexplained flu-like symptoms. The doctor ordered the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to address the fatigue and allergies.

Not surprisingly, his morning and noon cortisol were low, and his DHEA was borderline low. I wondered if he was actually getting enough sleep. It is so tempting for many of us to stay up later than we should. When we do this, we actually send hormonal signals to our brain that can cause weight gain, reduced immunity, and fatigue. The fatigue is partly a result of not allowing the adrenals to replenish cortisol and DHEA while we sleep.

The patient's immune response (SIgA) was depressed. This is likely from stress and high cortisol in the past even though total cortisol was low now. I conclude this man has been under stress for some time.

Anyway, part of the solution will be to take care of some of the basics of life: eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising a moderate amount. Likewise, the patient will consider taking Adapt for adrenal support, sublingual DHEA, and AmlaPaste to help boost the mucosal immune response.

For the flu-like symptoms, the patient might also consider taking the Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel (GI2).

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
