Adrenal Stress Index
Fatigue and Epstein-Barr Virus.
This was a patient who had tested positive for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and who felt quite fatigued most of the time. She also suffered from frequent headaches and poor sleep. The doctor used the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to look at her adrenal function.
With the sleep problems, I was not surprised to see cortisol high during the night. However, her cortisol was high all day and all night. DHEA was normal. Total Salivary Secretory IgA (SIgA) was a little depressed, and her gliadin antibody was negative.
High cortisol can cause sleep disturbance, lowered immunity, bone loss, anxiety, and quite a few other symptoms. So, the main goal might be to bring down this patient's cortisol. The doctor was going to consider moderate exercise, a diet balanced in a good protein to carbohydrate ratio (about 2:1 works for many people), and Seriphos before each meal.
The patient might also consider taking Adapt for adrenal support and AmlaPaste for mucosal immune support.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
