Adrenal Stress Index
Insomnia.
This patient was taking vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and a homeopathic yet still was suffering from insomnia. The doctor ordered the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to see if adrenal function was contributing to the sleep problem.
Sure enough, the test results showed significant abnormal adrenal hormone levels. Cortisol was quite high at midnight and still high in the morning. Patients with high cortisol in the night rarely sleep deeply. DHEA was normal. Total salivary secretory IgA was depressed (probably from the high cortisol), and gliadin antibody SIgA was negative.
The patient would benefit from Adapt for adrenal function support, AmlaPaste to boost the mucosal immune response, and Seriphos (before the evening meal and before a late-night snack) to help bring down the high cortisol.
The patient also would do well to eat a good balance of carbohydrate to protein (about 2:1 for most people) and to get a moderate amount of exercise.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
