Adrenal Stress Index
Under lots of stress.
This patient was indeed under a lot of stress. I suppose many of us are, but she had quite a list. She helped care for a family member who just had a surgery; she had headaches from an anatomical brain stem problem; she was running a home business and is on staff at the university where everyone is getting ready for the beginning of the school year. The doctor wisely ordered the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to have a look at adrenal hormone values.
The test showed that she had low cortisol in the morning and at noon. DHEA was normal. Immune response (salivary SIgA) was depressed. Gliadin antibody SIgA was negative.
I like to see patients with low morning cortisol try whole licorice extract first thing in the morning. The licorice inhibits the enzyme that causes cortisol to break down thus increasing cortisol half life. The patient likely would benefit from Adapt for adrenal function support and AmlaPaste to boost the mucosal immune response.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
