Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel
Cancer survivor with hot flashes.
This post menopausal woman was a cancer survivor who was experiencing hot flashes. The doctor used the Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel (PHP1) to evaluate ovarian hormone levels.
DHEA was normal, testosterone slightly elevated, and estrone low. Estradiol was above the target range, estriol in the target range, and progesterone well below the target range.
The patient should consider balancing her unopposed estrogens by taking sublingual progesterone. If that does not eliminate the hot flashes, she may want to take a low dose of sublingual estrogens temporarily. That would put her over the long-term target range for awhile, so she needs to weigh the symptom relief with the resulting estrogen levels and whether they might affect any cancer condition. She should certainly be monitored more closely than the average patient using this same test.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
