Adrenal Stress Index
Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia following a financial disaster.
This patient had had quite a series of stressful events. A couple of the most notable were a difficult pregnancy followed by the loss of a sizable sum of money. The combined stresses helped to produce her current diagnoses of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. The doctor used the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to help us understand just how her adrenals currently were functioning.
Actually, I was pleased to see that her values were not quite as bad as I expected. Cortisol was borderline high or high throughout the day. DHEA was normal. Total salivary secretory IgA (an index to total immune response) was depressed, and gliadin SIgA was negative.
The doctor was going to consider Adapt for adrenal support and AmlaPaste to increase the immune response. He may also give her Seriphos (phosphorylated serine) before meals to help lower the cortisol. He also will urge her to make sure she gets plenty of protein with each meal to help keep her blood sugar steadier.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
