Female Hormone Panel
No libido, irregular cycles, and heavy bleeding.
This relatively young patient seemed to be symptomatically peri-menopausal. Her libido was non-existent, her cycles were irregular, and her periods were quite heavy. So the doctor ordered the Female Hormone Panel (FHP).
Her estradiol and testosterone were normal. DHEA was low. Progesterone was quite low and explained her symptoms. It never really got out of follicular-phase levels during this month of sampling.
The doctor could treat this patient as post-menopausal by giving her a physiologic dose of sublingual progesterone every day. Because of her young age, he also might consider trying to get her brain and ovaries cycling again by giving her progesterone two weeks on and two weeks off.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
