Bone Marker Test

Osteoporosis.

Bone scans measure historic bone loss. On the other hand, the Bone Marker Test (now part of the Bone Health Panel) measures current rate of bone turnover, which for older adults means bone loss.

This post-menopausal patient was concerned about her bone health. The doctor ordered the DPD which uses a urine sample.

Her Pyrilinks-D/Creatinine ratio was high indicating she was currently losing bone mass.

Therapy likely would include adjusting any abnormal levels of adrenal hormones (cortisol and DHEA) and ovarian hormones (estradiol and progesterone). Therefore, the doctor might order the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI) to monitor adrenal hormones and the Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel (PHP1) to measure ovarian hormones. She might also take Oss Aide, a supplement that contains vitamins and minerals for bone health, eat well, and get a moderate amount of exercise.

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
