Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel
Ameba histolytica, Toxoplasma gondii, and Rhodotorula spp.
I love the Expanded Gastrointestinal Health Panel (GI2). Its nineteen individual test components identify causes of GI complaints so much more than any test or procedure from any other source. I have yet to see test results from any patient with symptoms that did not show at least one significant item that needed attention. That is why the practitioners love it, too. It gives them a fruitful place to start.
This patient had struggled with GI problems for some time, so the doctor ordered the GI2 and called me for a consultation.
The lab found no pathogenic bacteria but did culture a light Rhodotorula infection. Rhodotorula organisms may not be as troublesome as some other species of fungus (e.g. Candida spp.), but they should not be present to the degree they were.
There were no visible organisms. However, antibodies to Ameba histolytica and Toxoplasma gondii were positive indicating the organisms were at least in the gut.
Possible inflammation was indicated by the chemical markers for colon (intestinal lysozyme) and small intestine (alpha anti-chymotrypsin) inflammation. Digestive enzymes were low. The patient also was genetically intolerant of milk protein (casein) and soy protein.
So, where do we start? I gave the doctor the pharmaceutical protocols for Ameba and Toxoplasma. I discussed some possible non-prescription supplements that might help, too. She also should take digestive enzymes with each meal (Mega-PolyZyme) and avoid soy and dairy. For further healing she could also use Intestinal Repair Caps and Virgin Coconut Oil.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
