Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel

Hot flashes.

Hot flashes often occur for women whose last period was within the last few years but whose progesterone is low. Some women receive relief from progesterone augmentation alone, but many need estrogens, too, to get the full relief.

This patient had not had a period for some time but did indeed have hot flashes. To me that means her ovarian hormones were not static. However, the doctor ordered the Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel (PHP1) assuming the day-to-day fluctuations were minor.

We found her DHEA to be quite low. Testosterone was normal. Estrone and estriol were low. Estradiol was in the target range for long-term health. Progesterone was below the target range.

The doctor was going to give her a low dose of sublingual DHEA, sublingual progesterone, and subligual estrogens.

Because of the low DHEA, he also was going to consider ordering the Adrenal Stress Index (ASI).

Warm regards,

Dr. Mark Rhodes, Ph.D.
