Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel 2X
Follow-up after soy problems.
This elderly woman originally had used the Short Post Menopause Hormone Panel (PHP1) to test the levels of ovarian hormones. She had been told that taking soy products would protect her from a number of ailments that can afflict post-menopausal women (like breast lumps which sadly she now had).
The test revealed a very low DHEA indicating adrenal stress. Testosterone was normal. Estrone was quite high. Estradiol was above the target range, estriol at the top of the target range, and progesterone very much below the target range. A high estrogens to progesterone ratio often spells trouble.
The doctor and I concluded last winter that the soy likely was harming the patient by raising the free fractions of her estrogens.
Therefore, the patient stopped ingesting the soy products. She used a low dose of sublingual DHEA and a post-menopausal dose of sublingual progesterone. We now looked at her current PHP1 to determine how the changes had affected her hormone levels after about 6 months of therapy.
Her DHEA was still low indicating she could take a little more and that adrenal function was still a concern. Testosterone was normal. Estrogens came down to very acceptable levels for long-term health: estrone was a little low, estradiol in the target range, and estriol in the target range. Progesterone registered very high. That prompted us to think the saliva possibly was contaminated from the sublingual progesterone. However, the doctor will make sure she is taking the correct dose and that she is not getting progesterone from some other source.
Warm regards,
