FlavoPlex C is buffered Vitamin C with grape seed extract, Himalayan winter cherry, and three purified single bioflavonoids: hesperidin, hesperidin methyl chalcone, and naringin. Naringin, hesperidin, and hesperidin methyl chalcone are 85-98% pure as opposed to a crude bioflavonoid complex. Typically, bioflavonoid complexes contain 15-30% flavonoids at best and are locked in the crude orange or fruit pulp and peel by-product, thus exhibiting low bioavailability. Humans cannot digest cellulose to release the locked flavonoids. Pure forms of these valuable bioflavonoids are more water-soluble and bioavaiable.
Bioflavonoids are not considered vitamins, yet some seem to strengthen cell membrane stability and many have potent antioxidant properties. Naringin can reduce the activation of environmental toxins caused by the liver and provide added protection. Grape seed extract is an excellent source of polyphenols (anthocyanins and leucoanthocyanins), which are active antioxidants in red wine and are known to help support the cardiovascular system. Anthocyanins are also capable of reducing the formation of nitrosamines and other nitroso additives found in foods, thereby augmenting the nitroso lowering effect of ascorbic acid.
